RODTEP Scheme

The RODTEP Scheme, introduced by the Government of India, aims to boost exports by reimbursing exporters for the embedded taxes and duties that were previously non-recoverable. This scheme ensures that Indian exporters remain competitive in the global market by providing a level playing field. Effective from January 1, 2021, RODTEP replaces the earlier MEIS (Merchandise Exports from India Scheme) and aligns India’s export incentive framework with World Trade Organization (WTO) norms.

• Offset the non-creditable taxes and levies on exported goods.

• Promote transparency and digital processing through a fully IT-enabled system.

Features of the RODTEP Scheme

• Reimbursement of Duties: Covers Central, State, and local duties that are not refunded under any other mechanism.

• Automated Claim Process: Seamlessly integrated with the shipping bill process via ICEGATE for ease of access and reduced human intervention.

• Refund via Transferable Duty Credit Scrips: The refund is issued in the form of duty credit scrips that are transferable and can be used to pay certain import duties.

• Broad Coverage: Applies to all sectors and exporters, including previously excluded segments under MEIS such as SEZ units and EOUs.

Eligibility Criteria

• All exporters of goods are eligible, including manufacturers and merchant exporters.

• The product must be covered under the notified RODTEP rates.

• Export transactions must be made through Customs (electronic shipping bills) with the RODTEP claim indicated.

Documentation Required

• Shipping Bills with RODTEP declaration.

• Export invoices.

• Registration on ICEGATE portal.

• Bank account and IEC code linked with ICEGATE.
